Space Design

Interior & Exterior Design in Kampala - Space Planning, Visual Design and Construction Specifications

Space design is how a structure becomes an environment. It is the design work that determines what a space looks like, how it feels, and how it functions - delivered in the drawings and specifications your contractor needs to build it accurately.

What Space Design Covers

At Luphix Designs, space design follows the same structure as architectural design: research and concept development, detailed spatial planning and visual design, and delivery in the form of 2D and 3D drawings and fabrication or construction specifications. Simply put - I create concepts of how a space can be and  deliver those concepts in a form that can be built.

The Approach

1.Research and Concept Development:

Understanding how the space will be used, by whom, and to what standard. Concept development establishes the visual and material direction before detailed design begins.

2. Spatial Planning and Visual Design:

Layout, zoning, material selection, color, lighting, texture, and decorative treatment — designed as a coherent whole and documented at the level of detail required for execution.

3. 2D and 3D Impressions:

Floor plans, elevations, and 3D visualizations that allow clients to review and approve the design before fabrication or construction begins.

4. Fabrication and Construction Specifications:

Detailed specifications for built elements, finishes, and fixtures — the documentation that links the design to what the contractor or fabricator produces.

How it Connects to the Architecture

When space design is handled by the same team responsible for the architectural planning, the process is more efficient and technically aligned. We already understand the structure, service routes, natural light conditions and approved layouts - reducing conflicts and improving decision-making during execution. Where we engage independently, we work within the existing building framework - ensuring all design decisions are compatible with the structure and services already in place.

Who this Service is For

  • Homeowners designing or refurbishing a residential interior or compound

  • Apartment owners and developers designing residential or rental interiors

  • Business owners fitting out offices, clinics, pharmacies, or retail spaces

  • Hospitality operators designing restaurants, bars, hotels, or short-stay properties

  • Clients with a completed structure who need the interior or exterior designed and specified

Interior Design

Interior design covers the full interior environment: spatial planning, material selection, ceiling design, lighting, furniture layout, color, texture, and built elements such as joinery and cabinetry. The scope applies to residential, commercial, and hospitality interiors.

Exterior Design

Exterior and landscape design covers the environment outside the structure: compound layout, garden structure, hard landscaping -  paving, stonework, timber - exterior seating and social areas, exterior lighting, and water features where specified. The result is an  intentionally designed space.

How It Works

1. Brief and Consultation:

We discuss the space — how it will be used, who will use it, what the visual and functional brief is, and what the budget allows. This forms the basis for the design concept.

2. Research and Concept Development:

Concept direction is established — spatial logic, material palette, visual approach. This is presented for review and approval before detailed design begins.

3. Design Development:

The concept is developed into a fully resolved design, with floor plans, elevations, and 3D impressions produced and refined until the design is agreed.

4. Fabrication and Construction Specifications:

Completed specifications and drawings are delivered, ready for your contractor or fabricator to work from.
